My daughter is getting married in September. Planning an event that is this monumentally important and special can be stressful. Everything has to be perfect. The event, the dress, the make up and hair, vendors, guest lists, decor the list goes on. It made me think about how Jesus refers to us as his bride.
Let us rejoice and be glad and give him glory! For the wedding of the Lamb has come, and his bride has made herself ready...
Jesus calls us "the bride of Christ", Jesus is the bridegroom and this goes back to scripture in the old and new testament where for over 1500 years, the Church was identified as the bride betrothed to Christ. Most believe that it always refers to the church. Both of these beliefs are right because WE ARE THE CHURCH. Those of us who are in Christ we are the church. We are his bride and he our bridegroom.
Revelation 21:2
And I saw the holy city, new Jerusalem, coming down out of heaven from God, made ready as a bride adorned for her husband.
While both of these references from the bible are in revelations there are others in the bible. I think about the day Jesus returns and wonder have we as his bride made ourselves ready? Have we adorned ourselves with love, truth, faith, self control, forgiveness all those things he requires of us? We can not have one foot in the world and one foot in his word then expect the blessings. That is a dangerous place for us to be in because we were supposed to be set apart. We might be in this world but he called us to not to be "of this world"
In all our busy lives and taking care of our jobs, homes do we make time for Him?
It is important to reflect daily on the things we are doing and the time we are spending with Him or not spending with Him. We all do it, including me. We get busy and we get tired. Which is just where Satan likes us to be. He likes to get us busy and tired because when we are tired is when he can slowly separate us from Him.
1 Peter 5:8
Be alert and of sober mind. Your enemy the devil prowls around like a roaring lion looking for someone to devour.9 Resist him, standing firm in the faith, because you know that the family of believers throughout the world is undergoing the same kind of sufferings.
So, as we live daily remember to stay renewed in your mind to Christ. We are living in a time that is short. I believe that one day very soon we will see Jesus coming back for us and we need to make sure we have made ourselves ready. Pray daily, read his word and listen to his voice. Be obedient to follow him and the words he speaks to you. It is time bride to make yourself ready. Adorn yourself with the fruits of His spirit faithfulness, self-control, patience, goodness, gentleness, joy, kindness, peace and love.
Let's Pray
Jesus we seek you today and ask that you forgive us where we have made ourselves too busy or become so distracted by this world you were not first. We ask for your direction in our lives and that you were guide each of our steps Lord. Let us not be found sleeping when you return but let us be completely awake in You Lord. Put a fire for you Lord in our hearts and strengthen us where we have grown tired. Bring peace to our hearts Lord, we ask this in your precious name. Amen.
